Centuries before the dawn of Yeatsian associations Drumcliffe was a place of pilgrimage, Its importance dates from 574 when St.Columcille founded a monastery here, a foundation that is reputed to have ranked with Derry, Durrw and Kells as one of his principle religious houses.
Drumcliffe is best known worldwide as the final resting place of the poet William Butler yeats (1865-1939).

Take N15 from Sligo towards Donegal. 5 minutes north of Sligo town is the village of Rathcormac. The Benbulben Centre is on the left side before you leave the village.
